Despite the fact that it is not the latest available platform, it's advanced features have ensured that Socket 939 remains popular with home PC builders and there remains a very active 'after-market' for Socket 939 motherboards, CPUs and associated parts. The motherboard illustrated here is the MSI RS480M2-IL Socket 939 Mobo's support dual channel DDR SDRAM with 6.4 GB/s memory bandwidth - offering 2 or 4 memory card slots, usually up to 1GB per slot. It is worth remarking however, that if you are running a 32 bit operating system, it is probable that only 3 or 3.5GB will be recognised. (If you don't know whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit system, then it is likely that you are running a 32 bit OS). All processors for socket 939 motherboards have one HyperTransport Link, dual channel memory controller and support DDR200 - DDR400 unbuffered RAM memory. Popular Motherboards: The Socket 939 website has gathered some technical specifications for various popular motherboards from manufacturers such as Asus, Gigabyte and MSI.
